Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Nancy Smith Fichter Professor of Dance and Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor, has received the Doris Duke Artist Award. According to the official website, "The Doris Duke Artist Awards invest in exemplary individual artists in contemporary dance, jazz, theatre and related interdisciplinary work who have proven their artistic vitality and commitment to their field."

Ms. Zollar had the following to say about this distinct honor: "I am just sitting in happiness today.  I am so appreciative that I get to live these two wonderful lives in Tallahassee and Brooklyn.  My love for teaching and mentoring and the space that is made at FSU for me to continue my full creative life is a situation for which I have deep gratitude.  The School of Dance is a very special place filled with amazing and accomplished artists.  Our student body is talented and smart.  The students and my colleagues at FSU continue to feed me and inspire me.  I feel so lucky!"
